Freeway is a Baptist Church in the bayside suburb of Chelsea, Victoria.

While we still believe and adhere to the doctrines of traditional mainstream Christianity, our style is anything but traditional! Freeway is made up of people from all different backgrounds and all walks of life.

In our church, everyone is accepted for who they are; we treat each other with respect and dignity.

We like to see ourselves as BEING the local community rather than being apart from it.

We recognize that we have a responsibility to encourage our church family to find and use their gifts and abilities both in the church, and local community, as well as further afield.

Our Team

Pastor Mason Taylor

Mason Taylor is the sole pastor of Freeway Baptist Church. In 2013 Mason, his wife Sandy and three children Amie, Katie and Lachlan moved to Chelsea from North East Victoria to begin his ministry at Freeway. Mason left a successful bricklaying business to undertake full time study in a Bachelor of Ministry at MST graduating in 2010. He completed his ordination studies at Whitley College in October 2016.

Mason was drawn to a saving faith in Jesus at the age of 18 in 1989, since then he has been following Jesus and encountering His grace, warming his heart with affection for God.

Since coming to Freeway Mason has shared his passion for the Bible through his teaching and continues to point people to the saving grace that comes from a relationship with Jesus. Our faith in Jesus transforms every area of our lives. It is “A new way to live”.

Leadership Team

Daniel Hulme - Deacon / Church Secretary

Daniel grew up in a Christian family in South Africa, and his relationship with Christ has continued to deepen throughout his life. He and his wife Audrey have two children, Connor and Micah, and the family has been part of Freeway since moving to Melbourne in 2017. Daniel works at the Supreme Court of Victoria as Senior Program Manager of Capital Works and enjoys serving his community through a variety of sporting and coaching roles.

Helen Oliver - Deacon

Helen grew up in country Victoria and gave her life to Jesus at the age of twelve. Through the ups and downs of life, she has experienced God’s faithfulness and learned to trust Him in all circumstances. Helen is married to Mark, with two adult children and six grandchildren, and has served at Freeway through the finance team, Kids Ministry and prayer ministries. She works in office administration and enjoys gardening and spending time with her family

Elaine Wong - Deacon

Elaine grew up in Malaysia in a Christian family and gave her heart to the Lord at the age of fifteen. She and her husband, Lai Sin, have lived in several countries through his ministry as a pastor, and now call Melbourne home. They have a daughter and grandson. Elaine has served in finance, education and not-for-profit organisations, using her administrative, pastoral care and musical gifts wherever needed. She enjoys exploring her new home, reading, walking and spending time with her grandson.
